The internet age has pretty much killed any
notion of
"underground". You can pretty much google
anything
you want and point and click to purchase.

It has accelerated trends into redundancy, to
the point that we can foresee the entire
trajectory of a band the moment they post their
crummy tour tape on Bandcamp.

If only modern BM bands would cut the lack of
riffs, the gayness, and the intentional limited
pressing bullshit maybe there will be a future for
the genre.

Limited pressing bullshit? This is not Cradle of Filth
or Dimmu Borgir ( all though those bands have
great early releases ) That is what good, modern
BM is. It is for those who care. Not to be sold at
Amoeba or Newbury Comics. Ya snooze ya loose.
Also you will be able to get it on discogs in a years
time cheap.

Further proof of its poser fanbase. Anyone who desires
image over content is a hipster. "Good, modern
BM" boils down to contemporary marketing tactics:
vinyl pressings of 100, a lengthy nwn thread of idiotic
comments and laughably overinflated discogs prices.

The brains behind Defiled Light/PH prove this to a T

Fuck the left. I support Trump.

LOL well fuck your naive mind. America is a filthy,
selfish, greedy and fascist nation. Our president is a
multi millionaire and is still doing things in his
interest to get more money. We all think we deserve
something, but there are billions of people on this
earth. You do not deserve anything anymore than
the other billions. your car and morning coffee are
luck of the draw. you do not deserve shit.

All the more reason to appreciate what we have and
to conserve it. Your implied "compassion" is only a
mask for your self-hatred--a typical leftist tendency.
Most of us here don't view America through your
college-fed Marxist lens. This country is the greatest
society the world has ever known. It has produced
countless benefits to the world, including, among
other things, computers, the internet and the freedom
you now enjoy to bitch online.

Why are (average looking at best) hardcore/punk/alt
girls selling nudes on the internet? Silly hoes, the
internet provides way hotter nudes FOR FREE.

I'd imagine a lot of guys who buy nudes off internet girls
probably prefer when the girl is average (or even less than),
that way it's not too much of a stretch of the imagination that
they could be receiving nudes and attention from them for
free. They are more attainable so it's less of a fantasy and
more realistic.

I dont have a problem with reissues if a)
demand is greater than realistically
expected and b) the reissue is different
than the original press. The first press
should come with additional art or
packaging that will not be reproduced.
Reissues should be less of a collector's
item and more for those who really want to
listen to something on a physical format.
Its gay when labels do identical reissues
or put out pressing after pressing. It
hurts the curation of a label IMO.

Now that it's 2017, I have no interest in labels who intentionally undersell
the market for the sake of hype. This has become a hipster incentive that
reveals a cynical view of music and contributes to its decline as an art
form. Furthermore, fuck funderground labels like Iron Bonehead, NWN!,
Dark Descent and Profound Lore, who keep issuing minuscule represses
of top selling records. This only reduces the values of first press editions
and delivers a quiet FUCK YOU to dedicated collectors who scramble to be
the first in line. It's time to level the playing field. I will boycott these labels
and pursue only those that 1.) serve to meet the demands of collectors
2.) place emphasis on quality of content 3.) respect collectors by not milking
the underground solely for profit

Why should labels give a fuck about "collectors"?
-Because collectors allow labels to exist.

If people want the music, then give it to the people.
-Agreed, so let's do away with the fake collectors items.

As for your boycott, I highly doubt any label cares. Someone else will buy what you dont.
-True, but only because the majority are ignorant, have poor taste and are incentivized by hipster motives.

My thoughts on reissues:
Everyone who purchases a limited pressing is not just buying a record to listen to--they are making an investment, with the belief that it is likely to sell out and become more valuable and sought after over time. The whole point of limited pressings is that some people will inevitably miss out. But, as the value of the record grows, copies will appear on the secondary market, which will allow those who missed out an opportunity to buy. The secondary market is an essential component of the whole limited editions endeavor. As the value of certain
limited edition records grow, it generates more and more interest in the labels (& artists) of those records. Thus, future titles can sell out very quickly, due to the increased interest and demand. New buyers see the growth potential of the records, as reflected in the high prices seen on the secondary market, so they are more than willing to invest - both in out of print records purchased on the secondary market, and also in new titles pressed by the label. In this way, the market grows, the value of limited editions grows, and labels also benefit. As long as values on sold out stock (limited edition titles) keep rising, demand for that labels titles will continue to grow. It is only when values start to fall, and people see that these records are not worth anything that the interest in that label (and their artists) quickly wanes.

Reissues should NEVER be entertained by any specialist niche label of limited records. Reissues are typically undertaken by major labels for mainstream bands. Their first edition pressings can be in the thousands (or more), and when the first printing sells out, they do a 2nd printing of a few thousand, and then a third, etc. They are dealing in volume, and they are not releasing numbered, limited editions. When it comes to limited editions, reissuing undermines their desirability, and makes a travesty of the concept of limited edition pressings. It reneges on the whole contract that the label entered into with the buyer, where an assurance was pledged that X edition would be limited to X number of copies. And what it means, in effect, is that the label is saying to its collectors: "Screw you, we lied about the limitation, and we are going to keep pressing this whenever we feel like it. And we don't care about how it affects 1st edition prices on the secondary market." Every time there is a repress, everyone who has purchased a 1st limited edition of the title is getting screwed because the value plummets, and people who had missed out and may have been considering investing in a sold out 1st edition now just go and buy the reprint for a fraction of the cost.

This reissue scheme is a scam and represents a lousy business model. It is a guaranteed way for a promising label to shoot themselves in the foot and to watch the business that they built up sink into oblivion. I've collected records for decades now, but if labels are going to pursue this current strategy of reissuing every title, then there is no point in buying anything new, since all of them become valueless.

When you're a label dealing in limited pressings, you have to be true to that concept. If you are going to repress a title every time it sells out, then you shouldn't be offering the title as LIMITED in the first place! There is a place for second and even third pressings, but it's important that they be recognized as significantly different to the 1st pressing as to ensure that its value is not adversely affected (switching up the vinyl color is not enough). And the thought of releasing a 2nd pressing of a limited work should never be taken lightly. It should only be considered as an option, after many years have passed since the title went out of print; and only if its demand on the secondary market has continued to grow, with scarcity making it very hard to find.
